One of our amazing 4th grade teachers has set a goal this year to create real-world connections for students through the stories in our new SAVVAS reading curriculum. This week, that goal came to life in a special way with the story Trombone Shorty.
Debbie Gwynn collaborated with our outstanding NMS and NHS Music and Band teacher, Joshua Mendoza, who joined our 4th grade students during lunch to play his trombone, introduce students to the instrument, and share how music connects to the themes of the story. Students were engaged, inspired, and able to see literacy come alive through the power of music and meaningful real-life connections.
A huge thank you to Josh and Debbie for your collaboration and for helping connect learning beyond the classroom. These partnerships make a lasting impact on our students!

Thank you to all our parents, staff, and community members who joined us on November 19th for our first Book Club discussion on Part 1 of Hidden Potential, by Adam Grant. We had a great time exploring the theme Skills of Character and connecting it to our daily lives, our work with students, and our broader school community.
Key ideas from our discussion included embracing progress over perfection, recognizing that struggle can build strength, and understanding that potential grows when students are both supported and challenged. One quote that especially stood out was: “Character is not innate—it’s cultivated.”
You’re not too late to join us! We will be discussing Part 2 on January 28th.
If you’re interested in participating, please contact the school office.

Cub Families: Thank you everyone for a successful fundraiser with Charleston Wrap! Your combined efforts netted $3,330 for the enriching activities the Boosters will sponsor for the 2025/2026 school year, such as the carnivals and field trips.
Want to be a part of this amazing group of parents who get to speak directly with the principals every month? Join the Boosters! It's super easy...just show up! Our next meeting is this Thursday, November 13 at 5:30 pm at Sam Case. During these meetings, we hear firsthand how the programs our children are engaged in are performing, what's coming up in the next few months and offer feedback and suggestions that shape the educational experience.
We also volunteer our time at various activities to make them run smoothly and safely. Every level of involvement is vital to the parent/school relationship and there is a seat waiting for you.
